The Language of Identity

Cut through the noise of what people and society expect you to be.

The Language of Identity will help you reconsider what your identity and humanity means to you. Art will guide the process of discovery.

Here’s how it works:
This is an eight-installment workshop. From the convenience of your own home via Zoom, we will meet bi-weekly for 90 minute sessions over a four-month period. Groups are limited to ten participants. All are welcome. This is a space for human connection.

Have you been criticized for simply being you?
Society sends mixed messages about how we should look and behave. Staying true to ourselves can be difficult. Fearless authenticity is your birthright. Who are you? Let’s find out!

Art expertise or knowledge is not required.

An Identity Story

“I found myself reflecting on a guest artist talk Sharyll Burroughs gave in one of my freshman classes..., how she described herself as being completely unattached to a racial label, largely influenced by her buddhist practice. I remember being taken aback by this sentiment, it having felt like a betrayal of a collective bipoc solidarity. But although I may not fully want to detach from the kinship that I do feel with others under this artificial moniker of "asian," I believe that I am starting to understand where she is coming from...”

For the past ten years I have facilitated identity/humanity group dialogues in venues such as the Portland Art Museum, the New School NYC, and in galleries and public/private spaces. My art has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, and Los Angeles, CA.

I attended the Santa Monica College of Design, Art, and Architecture, founded by MacArthur Fellow, Joan Abrahamson.

I have practiced Buddhism and meditation for over 20 years.

This workshop may include Buddhist concepts however religion and dogma are not part of my process.
